What is important in present day education system, Knowledge or Grades?

grades or knowlwdge Now a day students scoring well above 95-99 per cent in a lot of cases, studying for the sake of knowledge no longer seems on priority for most students ( even parents)today, seems the whole educational system geared towards higher percentage.

The basic motto of education is imparting knowledge to students rather than making them score more marks without understanding the concept.

As a result, students study strategically to gain good marks rather than studying thoroughly to gain better knowledge. Marks have become a parameter in present educational system which is used to test your knowledge. What students have achieved is to manipulate this system by memorizing and reading only what is expected to come in exams rather than understanding the concepts and learning things.

Knowledge is power and grades are just numbers. If a student gains knowledge in a proper organized manner then the grades will automatically improve. Today’s education system may be good to score marks, but fails to retain the knowledge once students have completed their examinations.  This leads to young minds being suppressed at an age when they should be asking questions, learning and gaining knowledge, and developing a thirst for more knowledge. Knowledge can be categorized into two type’s bookish knowledge and practical knowledge. If a students mugs up a particular subject books and scores good marks but after a month the students does not remember much of the books content then what is the use of such type of knowledge. On the other hand if a student has only practical knowledge then he/she can only implement the same thing again and again but cannot innovate new things. This makes it clear that student must gain both types of knowledge bookish as well as practical. The perfect combination of both can revolutionize the education pattern in India. SO gaining knowledge in a proper organized manner can definitely boost the grades as well as provide knowledge.

These days students are opting for distance learning/open schooling because they want to gain both practical as well as bookish knowledge .In the concept of distance learning or open schooling the students does not need to attend regular classes but can study from home and student can work and gain knowledge in the time that is saved from attending regular classes. This knowledge is permanent and everlasting. NIOS board is very suitable for such students to gain there secondary and senior secondary level of education.
