1. Value of NIOS Board for IIT JEE,PMT and government job exams ?


Indian Institute of technology is the most prestigious institutes of India that students aspire to get into. It is the dream of every PCM students to study at IIT. One may get admission at any IIT after clearing a test organized by the all the IITs and but also getting passed by a recognized board like ICSE CBSE or NIOS BOARD. Some feel that the nios degree is not accepted in getting admission in iit institutes, which is not true. NIOS is a government of India recognized board which is given value in all competitive and professional courses that students take after clearing their 12th. As there are many students dreaming to study at IIT or be an IITian. The competition is not as easy like nios 12th exams to clear.

2. What is the top 20 percentile of indian boards for IIT ?

Normalisation as used in the Indian context is a process for ensuring that students are neither advantaged nor disadvantaged by the difficulty of exams that they do for the Boards. Yes they can. NIOS passed students have full authority and eligibility to appear in various competitive exams. However, other eligibility criteria like age, particular subjects, qualifying percentage and other criteria must be fulfilled by the student. N.I.O.S Passed students can seek admission in all india as well as state Medical, Engineering and other various competetive exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE, PMT (NEET) and also other professional and acedemic courses in all universities, technical institutes across the country and abroad. They can also seek the government jobs whether central / state government. 4. How is NIOS different from other Boards?

The National Institute of Open Schooling is equivalent to other school boards like CBSE, ICSE, etc. This is just a route for completing education for those who have not been able to complete it through the regular school. The Seconday and Sr. Secondary certificate obtained from NIOS have the same recognition as certificates issued by other boards. Therefore after completing your 12th (N.I.O.S Passed) students can seek admission in all india as well as state Medical, Engineering and other various competetive exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE, PMT (NEET) and also other professional and acedemic courses in all universities, technical institutes across the country and abroad. 5. Whether Secondary/Senior Secondary School degrees received from NIOS carry the same importance as other boards?

Yes. The Secondary/ Senior Secondary certificate issued form NIOS have the same recognition and importance as certificates issued by any other Boards in India. NIOS is independent with the power to conduct Public Examinations at Secondary and Senior  Secondary level via Govt. Of India's resolution dated 14 September 1990. 6. Can subjects be changed after taking admission in NIOS?

Yes. A student can change one or more subjects or opt one/two extra subjects during the admission period of five years, considering the total number of subjects does not cross seven.

7. Do students have a language choice for 10th and 12th in NIOS Board ?

NIOS offers its courses mainly in English, Hindi and Urdu medium. At the Secondary levels, apart from English, hindi, urdu you also have a choice of Telugu, Gujarati Malayalam and Marathi as other mediums for study.

8. Are subjects already passed from any other Board allowed to be moved or shifted to NIOS?

NIOS provides the facility of "Transfer of Credit" to a maximum of 4 subjects from NIOS(Old Registration), to a maximum of 2 subjects for CBSE /CICSE /UP Board of Secondary Education / Uttranchal Board of Examination / State Open Schools.

11. What is Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA)?

12. What happens incase TMAs are not submitted?

ABSENT is marked in the marksheet if the assignments are not submitted on time in the column for grades of TMAs. An ABSENT in the marksheet in the column for grades will not be acceptable to any student, so one should pay important concern to it.

15. Is it necessary to have a two years gap between passing of Secondary and Sr. Secondary Examination?

Yes, a two years gap is essential between passing of secondary and Sr. Secondary examination. If a learner does not have the requisite gap of two years, he/she can appear in maximum of four subjects only in the first year. He/she will be eligible to appear in remaining subjects only on completion of two years gap.

19.Difference between ICSE, CBSE and NIOS Board?

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) - is all about facilitating students who are unable to pursue regular studies. The only difference between cbse, icse boards and NIOS is that it is flexible in the choice of subjects. It is an open learning schooling and learners attend a contact learning programme for several months under stream1,2,3 & 4 unlike regular students. Therefore NOS sometimes gives ample opportunities to students as they get many chances to clear the examination. NIOS is identical to CBSE in terms of curriculum.
